NUTRITIONAL FUNCTIONS Eupatorium (Boneset) is an aperient, diaphoretic, expectorant, emetic, febrifuge, hemostat, nervine, purgative, stimulant, sudorific, and tonic. It is used for ague, backaches, catarrh, cramps, dropsy, dyspepsia, fever, gastritis, indigestion, influenze, pneumonia, rheumatism, typhus, and yellow fever. Homeopathically, eupatorium is used for ailments such as back pain, bladder ailments, diarrhea, flu, gastritis, gout, indigestion, infection, intermittent fever, ophthalmia, and rheumatism. Berberis Vulgaris L., or European Barberry, used for blood ailments, coughs, heartburn, inappetence, and kidney ailments. It is also used for arthritis, catarrh, typhus flux, gout, and splenitis. Homeopathically, barberry is used for biliary colic, bilious attacks, bladder infections, duodenal catarrh, dysmenorrheal, dysuria, fistula, gallstones, oxaluria, renal colic, rheumatism and sacral and side pain. Taraxacum Officinale, or Dandelion is an alterative, aperient, aperitif, bactericidal, laxative, stimulant, stomachic, and tonic. Dandelion Root is effective for chronic metabolic disease and conditions, particularly gout and liver disease. It is also helpful for hepatic and biliary problems, including jaundice, hepatitis, dyspepsia, anorexia, arthritis, and chronic skin disease. Triticum repens L., or Couch Grass, is used for the bladder, kidneys, intestines, and the lymphatic system. It is used to promote urination and relieve fluid congestion, evacuate the kidneys and liver, promote cleansing and it enlivens the lymph system for relief of chronic swollen glands. It relaxes and moistens the urogenital organs for bladder irritation, difficult urination, or stone passage. It clears the heat due to acute infections with discharge, especially infections of the urinary and intestinal tracts and catarrhal conditions of both. Trifolium pretense L., or Red Clover, is an excellent blood cleanser. It works with chronic toxicities and softens deposits. Red Clover also reduces inflammation and clears and repairs tissues. It is also used for mucous cystitis, burns, eye inflammation, white leucorrhea, and spermatorrhea. By improving blood circulation, impaired memory may be improved.
